The smell of a cold, frosty morning brings back memories of my childhood, waking up and seeing the fields behind our apartment block covered in white dust with a single path of footprints from people on their way to work.

The snowflake covered windows look like art and my brother is rushing me to get dressed in our 10 layers so we can go outside to play, and skip the dreaded chore of unloading the dishwasher from the previous evening.

Children of today will never understand the ‘need’ to get out of the house. We couldn’t wait to be in the fresh air and would play till the sun had long gone to bed. Our mothers would shout out the kitchen window or over the balconies for us to finally come back. Good times.

Nowadays every child you see has some form of tech glued to their palms and making no social conversations. People don’t seem to communicate anymore. What has happened to the good old days of laughing and cracking jokes with friends? It all turned to the best ‘posts’ on social media platforms or being ‘seen’ in the latest location, call me old but is that fun?

Fast forward 20 years and I’m harassing my 2 kids to get out of my hair and relive my childhood, hilarious. We moved to our 3rd country and 2nd continent in our lifespan, the second move was from an island, and the climate goes from one extreme to the next. We love it.

Summers are hectic though, to be honest, temperatures start at 8 a.m. in the morning from 25 degrees Celsius. You may think this sounds mild but keep adding to that the time and degrees and suddenly you find yourselves having lunch in 35-degree weather. Fun.

If we aren’t down the local mineral pools so the kids can spend the day in the water, we are inside with the doors and windows shut and the AC cranked right up. We never used to believe or have an air conditioner, but when you’re trying to get things done and it’s 40 degrees outside, things need to change with the times.

We were hesitant at first, worried about costs or installation procedures, the complexity of the whole journey and hence it took us longer than it should have to make the final decision, and when we did we’ve never looked back.

The kids aren’t complaining about being hot and sticky. We sleep sounder than ever before because we aren’t tossing and turning all night trying to keep cool, and with the auto shut off feature we don’t have to worry about waking up like a dry twig in the morning from dehydration. It’s a win-win all-round in our home.

Have a look at this blog https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-advantages-of-air-conditioning and see how great others feel about it, what have you got to lose?

Choosing your style of Air Conditioning unit.

For us we had the style we wanted for the home to stay aesthetically pleasing, but if costs are a factor in the final decision no matter how big or small, there is an option for everyone which we will take a brief look at.

  • The option we went for as it is best suited for larger areas. Vent boxes are placed around the home in the different areas and living spaces and the mechanics are essentially in the garage or an out of the way place. This system pumps cool, filtered air into the pipework and out the vents and extracts the warm air back to be ‘cleaned.’

  • A cooling unit box is fitted on the window sill, half in half out with the warm air being sucked to the outside and cool air brought in. These styles are good for cooling smaller spaces and if the room is compact, keep in mind the humming mechanism if it will bother the function of the room, ie. a bedroom or office.
  • If you aren’t looking to spend a lot of money on fitting the whole house with AC vents but still want to be reasonably chilled, a move around unit may be what you’re looking for. You can put it in any space you want cooling and they are compact enough to not be in the way, they go where you go.

Finding the right company to install a unit you have in mind is a big factor, you want a quality service, from a reputable company, and be safe in knowing that they are up to date with certifications and training on installation procedures.

This is the safety of your home and family after all, as well as your money.
