Acne: Types and How to Treat Acne Scarring

Most of us have had acne in our lives at least once. It most commonly happens to teenagers and adults which can make their skin acne-sensitive. Acne is sometimes indicated by age, but this skin condition is often identified by its symptoms and often by external factors which may have resulted in the appearance of defects such as summer acne etc. Acne is classified according to the severity of symptoms.

While we can’t always avoid acne, we’re left with a scar or mark where the acne was once located. It can be such a hassle to deal with such skin issues, but good thing there are cosmetic treatments to help get rid of our acne scars. An acne scar treatment, just like what we have here in this amazing post, can be your go-to treatment if you’re looking for an immediate solution.

Stages of Acne

At different periods of our lives, our hormones function differently, so the acne varies according to age. Acne is more common as hormones fluctuate and are commonly divided into three age types.

  • Acne in babies – occurs from 3-9 months in around 20% of newborns and infants.
  • Acne in teenagers – occurs most often in puberty between the ages of 15 and 18.
  • Acne in adults – is more common in women since the impact on the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and menopause is induced by stress and hormonal changes.

Other Types of Acne

Normally the main cause of acne is hormones, which make it an internal problem, but various external factors may make acne worse. Such external factors include the sun, polluted air, and dirt. Below are the other types of acne that you can get from harmful factors.

Acne from Picking & Popping Pimples

This can be avoided as a further form of acne. It is caused by picking or touching active acne to the degree that the area can become contaminated. You’ll need to control yourself from picking your acne if you want to avoid it from turning into a scar.

Acne from Clogged Pores

Perhaps the one to be avoided easily. It is caused when the pores are obstructed by impurities or are not cleaned properly. More common to women as they often put on makeup and in some cases, they tend to forget about them and have them overnight. Scrubs may be used to prevent such acne with exfoliating products.

Medical Acne

The effect of taking certain medications like corticosteroids, an overdose of vitamins, or contraceptive/emergency pills which create a hormonal disequilibrium is generally triggered as a secondary effect. This form of acne appears to decrease if a person stops taking the drug. It may appear on the face or the rest of the body as nodules or pustules.

Summer Acne

This form of acne is prevalent in women aged 25-40 years who had acne when they were teens. Typically it occurs after exposure to harmful UV light on your skin.

What Are My Treatment Options?

If you have a serious scar that emotionally impacts you, then you can choose one of the following acne scar treatments:

Chemical peels

Before you put a chemical peel on your face, you should remember these points. Chemical peels decrease the presence of light acne scars and hyperpigmentation. A chemical is added to the skin to throw the outer layer out, so it looks even and cleaner. However, a few days after the treatment depending on the acid used, you can feel redness and skin peel.

Lasers

Laser treatments are one of the best options for acne treatment but can also be the longest one. The treatment itself won’t take up so much time, but your dermatologist may ask you to come back for a couple of sessions. Laser treatments are used to strip the outer skin layers, to bypass acne scar areas and to light up the redness around the acne. The type of laser used depends on the acne scar that can be flat or raised.

Dermabrasion

A dermatologist uses a high-speed brush to provide you with a smooth skin surface and minimize the depth of the acne scars. This is an incredibly effective acne scar treatment. Though successful, they can need a few days of recovery. Your specialist may ask you to come back for a few more sessions to get the desired results.

Microdermabrasion

It lightens the skin as tiny crystals are sprayed to the affected area. The dermatologist performs the procedure, and multiple procedures will be required in order to reach the desired results, but no downtime occurs.

Fillers

Fillers fill acne scars, most often those that contribute to the skin’s depressing appearance. Fillers need to fill the scar with a material such as hyaluronic acid, fat or collagen. Every few months, the filler injection is repeated until it finally absorbs into the skin.
