A storage unit will come in handy if you’re moving for a few months and returning, or if you have way too many things in your garage that you can’t get rid of, or if you inherited items you have to go through at a later time. Whatever the reason is learning how to organize a storage unit will help you get the most out of the space.
If you’re working on a temporary project you might find a storage container rental to be the best option for you. Also, it will come in handy if you want to have your storage unit on your property making it easier to pack it right without making trips to a storage location. Once you have it packed they will pick it up and take it where you need it to go.
Packing a unit is similar to packing a moving truck. The goal is to maximize the limited space you have once you pick out the perfect storage unit for your needs. It’s sometimes tempting to cram everything in there, but that doesn’t make life simple when trying to find something in the future.
Before you pack you want to plan. Make a list of everything you are going to put in the storage unit. This will make it easy for you to remember what’s in your storage and will come in handy if you ever have to do an insurance claim.
Staying organized is key. Make labels for each box clearly stating what’s in each box. Put the labels on every side of the box in case one ever falls off and also to make sure that no matter how the box goes into the unit you will be able to see what’s in it.
If there’s something fragile in a box make sure you write it outside the box and make it noticeable.
Keep the items in the boxes tight together. This will prevent the items inside from banging into each other as the boxes are moved. You don’t want to leave space in between your items inside the box.
When you start moving everything into the storage unit put the heaviest and tallest boxes and items in first. Any washing machines, refrigerators, etc should go in first. Once the heavy large items are in you can start stacking the boxes on top of each other.
Leave a clear path down the middle of the unit so that you can walk in and easily see what’s on each side of the unit. If you ever have to look for something this will ensure that you don’t have to jump over boxes and items to search.
Now that you have all the tips on how to organize a storage unit, you can go pack like a pro. Once you have it properly packed you will feel great about your work and planning. Packing a storage unit is almost like an art once everything is in there nice and neat.
