3 Simple Steps to Save the Planet

These days, becoming eco-friendlier is something high on everybody’s to-do list, thanks to increasing news coverage on just how important it is to look after the environment. And, it’s heartbreaking. You’ve probably seen footage of once-stunning beaches covered in discarded plastic; maybe you’re in despair about the amount of sea creatures being harmed or worse because of the amount of plastic in the oceans. Perhaps you’re worried about the environmental effect on the atmosphere and what  climate change will mean for your kids’ futures.

The good news is that we can all combat these effects by working together. And even the smallest of lifestyle changes can have big results. Here’s what you can do.

Wave Goodbye to Fast Fashion

Everybody loves getting a new on-trend outfit at an affordable price, but the truth is that the fast fashion industry is having one of the biggest impacts on the environment today. Factories across the world, the use of non-sustainable fabrics, and cheap labor are just some issues that have been brought up recently.

Instead, look to buy clothes made by sustainable companies. And buy less; go for essentials that you can mix and match, while spending more money on clothes that you can rely on to last you longer. Any clothes that you don’t need any more? Don’t throw them away. Recycle them by turning them into something new or use a pick up donation service to give them a new lease of life with somebody new.

Ditch Single-Use Plastic

Single-use plastic is a massive issue right now. All that plastic you can see in the ocean and on those beaches? It’s all because people simply can’t stop buying a new plastic bottle every time they want a drink of water, using plastic straws for drinking, and plastic bags to carry everything.

Thankfully, alternatives are here – and they’re easier than ever to use. Plus, cutting back on single-use plastic can be beneficial for your wallet, too. For example, instead of getting a multi-pack of individual water bottles, get a reusable metal bottle and a good water filter. You can get clean, fresh water from the tap, and your bottle will keep it cold. If you prefer to drink through a straw, invest in a metal one that you can wash and reuse each time.

Go Paperless

Paper comes from trees, and paper production is the reason why so many forests around the world are being chopped down, having a direct and devastating impact on the environment. Going paperless is one of the best things that you can do to contribute, and the best part is that it’s easier than ever to do.

Along with making sure that any bills you get are sent via email instead of in the post, think about other areas where you use paper too – like cleaning. Instead of using single-use kitchen paper rolls, cut up old clothing that you were going to throw out and use it as rags for a double whammy of eco-friendliness.

With some simple steps, you can do more to care for the planet and protect the environment.
