How to Spot a Stroke Fast: 5 Things You Must Look Out For

Every year in the United States, approximately 795,000 people suffer from a stroke. Strokes account for 1/6 of all cardiovascular-related deaths. And if they’re not treated in a timely manner, they pose a high chance of becoming fatal.

For this reason, you need to know how to spot a stroke fast. Wondering what to look out for? Then you’re in the right place.

Here are five signs of a stroke for you to look out for.

Numbness

One of the most common signs of stroke is numbness. This numbness can appear just about anywhere, from your face to your arms to your legs and otherwise. Generally speaking, strokes cause numbness on only one side of the body, though they’re capable of causing it on both.

If you feel a numbness in your body for more than 10 minutes, you would be wise to get to a hospital. Even if you aren’t experiencing a stroke, you could be experiencing another serious health problem.

Vision Troubles

Another sign to look out for is vision troubles. If you suddenly have issues with seeing out of one or more eyes, the cause could very well be a stroke.

This is often accompanied by a loss of control of the muscles in the face. You might even feel as though one of your eyes is drooping. Fortunately, there are medications available to help with this problem, the price of which is more affordable than you would think.

If you’re at high-risk for a stroke, these medications could be extremely beneficial to you.

A Sense of Confusion

Maybe you can’t say words correctly? Perhaps you’re having difficulty understanding someone else? If so, a stroke could be the culprit.

A stroke damages cells in the brain. When it does so, it can prevent the brain from sending and receiving signals properly. Confusion is the result.

A Sudden Loss of Coordination

You might also encounter problems with your coordination. For instance, you could be walking and then suddenly have difficulty staying in a straight line. Or, you could be standing and suddenly have trouble holding your body upright.

Dizziness and a lack of balance are characteristic of strokes as well. In essence, if you can’t keep control of your body, a stroke should be suspected.

Severe Headache

You’re sitting at home just minding your own business. All of a sudden, a sharp pain shoots through your head. You’re having one of the worst headaches of your life.

You might not know it, but you could be having a stroke. Severe headache is highly characteristic of strokes and must be taken seriously. Even if it’s not a sign of a stroke, it could be a sign of another major health issue.

To Spot a Stroke Fast Is to Potentially Save a Life

Strokes can claim lives. As such, it’s necessary to spot a stroke fast. The faster the stroke is spotted, the faster treatment can be administered and the more likely the patient will survive.
