We all strive to be better than others. It’s not necessarily a bad thing unless you’re also overly competitive. However, when we believe ourselves to be stronger, faster, wiser, or more intelligent than others, it gives us a self-confidence boost.

It’s not about feeling superior as much as it’s about feeling good about ourselves. One of these traits, intelligence, is especially important. Intelligence gives us the means to solve problems, make good choices, and live fulfilling lives.

But how do you know if you’re smarter than the average person? Do you exhibit the signs of intelligence?

Keep reading to find out.

1Listening and Thinking Before Speaking or Acting

One of the most notable signs of an intelligent person is patience. In all walks of life, intelligent people get all the facts before making a decision.

This means listening to those around them, observing people’s reactions, and understanding how to read a room before speaking or acting. This also ties in with something called emotional intelligence.

Emotionally intelligent people understand their own emotions and are willing to feel their way through them, rather than burying them. As such, they also know how to effectively communicate with other people experiencing emotional distress.

As social beings, this a powerful and useful skill. Don’t dumb down your feelings because of pride or a sense of toughness. It’s only inhibiting your intelligence.

2Open-Mindedness and Self Awareness

Being open-minded and self-aware are also telltale signs of intelligence. An intelligent individual understands that neither they nor anyone else has all the answers. As such, they remain open-minded to other perspectives, opinions, and possibilities.

An intelligent person knows how to sit on a fence. For it is from that position that they can clearly see both sides of an argument.

The moment someone takes a firm stance on an issue, they become biased. Because of these biases, people become easily manipulated and triggered. They lose sight of the facts and lose all perspective.

An intelligent person is also highly self-aware. They know their strengths, their weaknesses, and their potential.

3Curiosity and Creativity

Another one of the most common signs of intelligence is creativity. Therefore, you should encourage free-thinking and problem-solving when raising an intelligent child. Propel them to find new, better ways of completing tasks.

Creative people also make music, art, fashion, technology, and more. They are entertainers and designers. There are even famous members of honor societies who became well-known and wealthy through the art of being creative.

Curiosity and creativity often go hand in hand. A natural curiosity suggests a willingness to learn and discover new things. If you’re a curious person, indulge in your questions and find answers, no matter how insignificant they may seem.

An intelligent person is in a perpetual state of learning.

Do You Exhibit Signs of Intelligence?

Do you fall into any of the categories above? Do you have the telltale signs of intelligence?

Albert Einstein once said that everyone is born a genius. However, if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live life believing it’s stupid.

Remember that, because nobody is perfect in all areas of life. You are unique and brilliant in your own way, even if you haven’t discovered it yet.
