ADMIT YOU NEED HELP
Acceptance of the fact that you need help is the first step towards fixing your problems. It is not possible to fix your problems if you are not aware of the fact that you are having a problem and you need to get it fixed as soon as possible so that you do not have to face troubles because of that. Same is the case with lifting up your public speaking skills. Taking this point in view, a great public speaker said that he wasn’t good and he knew that. He further said that though it was really for him to deny the fact that something was wrong with me, but he still accepted it and tried to work on it. The solution that he gave was that, a person should slip back into what he knows which is basically to dissect the arguments and to understand them better. He should think when he talks and starts slow. It will give a public speaker some confidence which will let him better his public-speaking skills. So, follow this advice of a great public speaker and improve your public-speaking skills.
FORAGE FOR FEEDBACK
The best quality of a good presenter is that he does not rely on his assessments of himself. He tries his best to seek honest feedback from those whose opinions he considers trustworthy. He seeks feedback from his trusted co-workers, who he think, can never harm or disparage him, or his trusted friends, who do not mince their words to please him, and trusted family members, who blatantly tell him when he is wrong. So, if you want to improve your presentation skills, you need to seek solicited opinions from these people too and accept their feedback with open arms. Lead debate coach Ron Klain once said that we are not going to get there by continuing to grind away and marginally improve because this is not about changing the words in your debate book but about speed, style, attitude, engagement, and presentation.
KEEP IT SIMPLE
It is an easier way for the presenters to spit it all out since they know their subject matter inside and out and it seems tempting to them to drone on unimportant details or over-analyze or digress the matter. And this is exactly where presenters are tested. This is the point that distinguishes between good presenter and a bad presenter. Poor presenters drone on about minor details and say it all, no matter how irrelevant or monotonous it all is while powerful presenters do not do that. They, instead, find ways to narrow their focus and apply several techniques to stay on the track.
Klain, a renowned presenter gave some tips to public-speakers about writing a ‘debate-on-a-page”, a single piece of paper that underscores all key points. He said that it should include Must Remember items, Best Hits, and Rebuttal Cheat Sheet. He basically meant that a debater should write all the important details precisely along with catchphrases to grab the attention of the audience. So, if you want to lift your presentation skills, do that.
